Kenneth Groth Obituary

Kenneth L. Groth, age 73, of Elgin, IL, passed away on March 28, 2024. He was born September 5, 1950 in Elgin, IL to his loving parents, Merlin “Mert” and Elaine (née Agnew) Groth.

Ken graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1969, and from the Institute of Drafting & Technology, Class of 1971. He worked at A to Z Rentals for 46 years, as a mechanic, manager, and vice-president before retiring in 2015.

Ken met his wife Pamela in confirmation class and started dating in 9th grade. They were together 57 years, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Caribbean cruise last June.

Ken had a great sense of humor, even during his many medical treatments. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, bowling, boating, and ATV riding. He loved to build things and could fix almost anything. One thing he disliked was having to pay for something he could build or fix himself! He had a passion for the '69 Chevelle he restored, and was a member of the Fox Valley Torkers Car Club, as well as the South Elgin Lions Club.

Ken loved helping others, especially teaching new skills or helping improve their skills, whether it was bowling, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, or using power tools. He also loved coaching baseball and softball and his involvement with the Elgin National Little League.

Special moments in Ken’s life include the many family fishing trips to Canada and Wisconsin, as well as his weekly happy hours. He also enjoyed spending time at his house at Lake Delavan. And he especially loved his family, and cherished teaching moments with his children and grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lynn Stell. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Groth; children, Jason (Jessica) Groth of Woodstock, and Kristin (Chris) Lukasik of Pingree Grove; grandchildren, Austin and Aubrey Lukasik, and Emrik and Ethan Groth; siblings, Gary (Diane) Groth of Elgin, Kim (Jim) Britland of Iron Station, NC, Paula (Ricky) Williams of Broadway, NC, and Rickie (Sue) Groth of Mahopac, NY; brother-in-law, Ashley Stell of Willow Springs, NC; Uncle Dennis and Aunt Darlene Groth of Jacksonville, IL; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
